Brexit latest news

Here are six things we learnt over the weekend (14 Dec 2020):

1. The UK has agreed not to renege on EU Withdrawal Agreement.
2. The EU Commission issues targeted contingency measures applicable 01 Jan.
3. On Friday, UK Government and EU Council anticipated No-Deal “most probable”.
4. On Sunday UK-EU pledged to “go the extra mile”.
5. Today: tentative  “constructive progress”.
6. No deadline set: “…could drag on until Christmas”.

In the meantime, the UK must decide (before year end):

• Walk-away without a deal
• Accept EU trade terms offered(incl. regulatory equivalence)
• Request another transition extension (despite previous refusal): requires unanimous (27-country) approval.
